Leading By Example: Hearth Architects Stirling Success - Pt 1
A home is anything but generic. It has the collectables from life, the trinkets that capture memories, moments and celebrations. But wrapping all that living is the fabric and furniture of your home.
The team at Hearth Architects, who operate somewhere close to the wettest parts of Britain, got a whopper of project landing in their lap - not from a gruelling pursuit in a cat and mouse client chase. It was a chance invitation on a tummy rumbling walk - when Hearth co-director Dougie Boa got invited by the owner for a look see.
A home with an iconic view needed a makeover. And this is where the universal problem of architecture and utility meet in an unholy love match. The vision an architect has for a project has to combine with the lived experience and needs of the residents.
The project centred around a view - and that view was experienced through the medium of a conservatory. A carbuncle on many homes, this one was different.
With tree canopies at eye level, a grand stand location and an opportunity to redevelop the living space - the resulting transformation caught the eye of the judges at the Stirling Society of Architects.

Part of the success of this project is the circular reuse of much of what Dougie and the contractors John McLeod started with - and the incredible use of bio materials and retrofit excellence in the final redesign.
Hearth are already building on a reputation for excellent design but their dedication to using energy efficient materials, incorporating details that hide behind gorgeous facades - means we had to go see the project in person.

Dougie and his team operate across Central Scotland
So as we congratulate the team on their announcement of an award for the work on this project - we can also celebrate gaining access to this monumental example of sympathetic refurbishment - which we're visiting to capture on camera.
It's a myth that energy efficient homes need to be boring, functional and bland.
Just ask the proud new owner of this amazing refurbishment;
We have the most wonderful living space thanks in large part to Dougies architectural skill, patience, perseverance and vision. - Fiona G
