Westminster is not where permission starts. Britain is already taking action against climate change. Are people afraid to report on it?
If you only followed politics, you'd think the transition to lower-carbon homes had ground to a halt.
It hasn't.
This weekend I visited my sister. She'd installed shade sails to protect her home and her dogs from the summer heat. It works so well she wants more.
She can't buy any.
They're sold out.
It's the same story I'm hearing across the industry. Installers are struggling to source some air conditioning equipment. Heat pump manufacturers have faced shortages. Products that make homes cooler, cheaper to run or more resilient are in demand.
That doesn't sound like a market waiting for permission.
It sounds like people responding to reality.
Most homeowners aren't asking whether they're pro- or anti-net zero. They're asking why the bedroom is 28°C at night, why the energy bill is so high, or how to keep the house comfortable next winter.
People don't wait for political sign-off to solve problems in their own homes.
They paste yoghurt on windows. They fit solar. They install batteries. They improve insulation. They replace heating systems.
They adapt.
That's the real story. Climate action isn't something that begins when whitehall and politicos agree. It begins when lived experience changes.
As another winter approaches, that won't change. Whatever the political debate, households will continue making practical decisions that improve comfort, cut bills and make their homes more resilient.
The transition isn't waiting for Westminster.
So here's the rubbing point. Why aren't we seeing enough stories about this?
We don't need lies about keeping calm. We need action to make change match our future lives.
